This topic immediately made me think of the Turtle Traders experiment. Weren’t they taught to trade and amassed hundreds of millions of dollars as a group? That is some evidence that traders can be made.
But I guess on the other side of the coin, many of the Turtles failed too. It was the ones were able to follow the rules that were successful.
It certainly helps to have an analytical mind, a calculated risk taking, the ability to constantly learn and have big dreams. As Chris said some challenges of life push one beyond the limit of boundaries, others break and wait for help. One gets the meaning straight away – others need detours. a certain set of gens might be helpful but maybe along the walk of life other sides of ones personality will be triggered.
I think your DNA has a lot to do with it
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Chris and Louise. I guess it comes down to the fact that some people just accept their lot in life and “live a life of quiet desperation” (or just whinge about it) and others decide to do something about it. I believe a number of factors come into to play as to what form of action you take. Trading has really made me take a good look at myself though!
By the way, the Awesome Foursome were very good at selling tinned fruit also.
I think if you don’t have some of the key positive personality/mindset traits such as drive, ability to learn/adapt, patience, being open to new ideas/way of thinking- you will struggle in the long term with trading.
For those who don’t have these initially- maybe with enough exposure to different thinking/mentors etc – it might be possible?? – but many switches will need to be activated, which could prove very difficult to do.
I think though whether active or dormant at the time – at least some of these key traits will need to be present.
Perhaps this is captured neatly by Bruce Hornsby in the chorus of the song “Barren Ground”
“Good seed don’t grow on the barren ground
Good things don’t come along as you just sit dreaming on….”
